Wooden air stone

Pros: Cheap. Works

Cons: Plastic piece came out of wood

Worked well except after a few days in the water the plastic piece came out of the wood. Also, obviously they float so you'll need something to hold them down

Didn't last long

Pros: Bubbles were very fine

Cons: Didn't last long

I reviewed this before, but it doesn't look like it worked, so I'm trying again.
Maybe I'm unlucky but both of these cracked for me within minutes. As another reviewer said, once they crack they're pretty useless. Oh well, just won't be buying these again.

Lasted maybe 20 minutes

Pros: When it worked the bubbles were very fine

Cons: Lasted minutes before they both split

If these don't split on you, they'd probably be great. I put the first one in which lasted maybe 5 minutes before it split like another reviewer mentioned. I Googled it and figured I just got unlucky with one and put the other one in, it went maybe 15 minutes before it split as well. Won't be purchasing these again.

These Work Well

Pros: Produce plenty of fine bubbles.

Cons: They float!

These wooden airstones produce a lot of very fine bubbles and would be perfect for use in a protein skimmer. I used them to increase aeration during a Chemiclean treatment to get rid of cyano bacteria. The only reason I don't score them five stars is that they float (because they are wood) and so have to be weighted to remain on the floor of the tank. Aside from that minor shortcoming, they were exactly what I wanted.

Unlucky

One worked perfectly out of the package, but the other formed a large crack shortly after putting it in water which all the air escapes through instead of the pores.

They are actually witches!

Pros: The blow bubbles

Cons: They float (as they are made of wood...or duck, could go either way)

For 7 years I’ve been mixing my salt with aeration instead of a power head, partly because my LFS said it would work, partly because I already had air stones and pumps laying around. Unfortunately, those blue air stones start to break down, leaving a blue sand in my mixing buckets. I picked up some white stones, and have had better luck, but notice they discolor over time (either stuff is growing in them between mixings, or they are filtering stuff out of the air from the pump, not sure). I decided to retire my last blue stones and give the wood ones a try. Much like a duck or small stones, these float, which as any good scientist or knight of Camelot can tell you, they must be witches. Fortunately, I’ve got a few extra suction cups around that hold them perfectly in the mixing buckets. Mine is an odd use case, so if you have some way to hold them in place, I’d say they are good little diffusers!

great performance

I wanted small bubbles in a freshwater tank and this works well. Good low price because they have to be replaced regularly.
