Next Generation of Water Moving Technology
The Maxspect Gyre is the world`s first "gyre"- generating water moving device for aquariums. Compared to traditional powerheads and wavemakers that are based on propeller nozzle flow technology, the Maxspect Gyre is based on advanced crossflow technology which produces massive horizontal water movement leaving little to no deadspots in its wake.
Max Flow 2,300gph | 8~35 watts | 25-100+ gallons
Includes Single Gyre XF230 Pump and Advanced Controller
Applicable for glass or acrylic aquariums up to 1/2 in.
Gyre - Crossflow Technology
A) Virtually no dead spots
B) Evenly distributed flow rate throughout the entire aquarium
C) Water bounces back from the other side to create a full circulation, ie. generating "gyre flows"
Standard Pump Propeller Nozzle Technology
A) Dead spots with relatively poor water movement
B) Very strong flow in the center, making coral placement very difficult
C) Very weak flow near the other end of the aquarium
Why gyre generator and not wavemaker?
Wavemakers excel in making waves, while waves are spectacular to watch in motion, they are in fact moving the majority of the water vertically up and down, with relatively low horizontal movement, especially near the bottom of the aquarium.
On the other hand, gyre generators excel in moving sheer flow of water from one side of the aquarium to the other. The sheer flow of water is so strong that i would bounce back from the opposite site to achieve full circulation within an aquarium, ie. generating "gyre flows".

I have both the XF-250s and XF-230s in different tanks and yes, the XF-230s are much noisier then the XF-250s in my opinion. Don't understand it myself, sigh!

PROS
Lot of great features and 2 pumps will work with 1 controller. Also battery backup is available to help keep water movement when/if there is a power failure.
CONS
Display is small but thats what helps keep the size of the controller small also.
REVIEW
Rated 3 stars because no matter how hard I push the AC Power cord plug into the transformer I can not get it to go all the way into the opening. This causes the power cord to fall out of the transformer with any movement of the cord. I bent the 2 prongs a little and that helped some. The display...Read More

This causes the power cord to fall out of the transformer with any movement of the cord. I bent the 2 prongs a little and that helped some. The display characters are pretty small so when you plan to set the controller up make sure you located in a place where you can readily see the settings. Other than that this is definitely a 5 ***** device.Hide
PROS
Great wave pattern coverage, easy to setup and control
CONS
Color black, this would be great if molded in clear plastic!

Heard great reviews about these Maxspect Gyre pumps and now that I've got one I fully understand their superior flow capabilities over M40 pumps. Highly recommend these for your tank.

I replaced my Tunze stream pumps with a single XF-280 for my 225 acrylic reef tank. Its a 2x6 base and 30" tall. I have the controller set to max at 60% in a traditional gyre flow and am absolutely thrilled. Every 6 seconds or so I have a tank-width cyclical wave that launches up and around the tank protecting my extensive and highly valuable collection of rare chalice, acan and other corals. I have no dead spots anymore. Evidence of no dead spots and the flow is that my algae buildup has been cut by around 90%. Will be fun to play with additional settings as I get through the extensive options.Hide
CONS
A short learning curve with the controller, nothing drastic

This pump is the best thing to happen to my tank since I added the two linked single controller Nanobox Duo Plus lights. I had the Orion LT120 light that came with my JBJ RL45, they make a good workbench light. I haven't even begun to explore the numerous modes that can be used with the Maxspect. Everything is very happy with it set at 40% on the Gyre setting. When and if I get a bigger tank, the Maxspect Gyres will be what I use. The most realistic back and forth wave motion of a shallow reef I have ever seen. High flow up top, low to moderate at the bottom and middle. Love it! Get the Ice Cap battery backup, you won't regret it.Hide
