The new Milwaukee MA887 Seawater Digital Refractometer encompasses 3 different types of user selected scales for the measurement of seawater providing for a much more precise evaluation. Each scale is temperature compensated.

1. PSU – The newest type scale standard – Letters stand for Practical Salinity Units and is fast become the universal standard for seawater measurement

2. ppt – The old standard of Parts Per Thousand of saturated salt. This is the oldest of the 3 seawater measurements scales

3. S.G. The current standard of Specific Gravity hydrometers and refractometers.

The digital refractometer eliminates the uncertainty associated with mechanical refractometers and is easily portable.

Simple and easy to use! Samples are measured after a simple user calibration with steam-distilled water (do not use RO or RO/DI water for calibration). Within seconds, the refractive index and temperature are measured and converted in to one of three popular measurement units. Temperature is also displayed on the large dual-level display.

The Milwaukee Instruments MA887 digital refractometer is easy to calibrate and easy to read and provides highest accuracy possible for the measurement of seawater 3 specific scales. This is the type of accuracy demanded by today’s professionals and Milwaukee Instruments delivers.

A Milwaukee Instruments Protective Hardshell Case is also available and sold separately.

Fast, Accurate, Easy

Pros: Fast efficient accurate easy to use

Cons: None

Fastest easiest way to measure salinity, will never check salt without this unit again, and I like it much better than the pens as you have 0 possibility of cross contaminating samples.

Do not use temp reading

Pros: Seems to read SG just fine

Cons: Temp readout not accurate

The SG reading seemed to work fine.

However, the temp readout can not be used as the actual temperate of the water sample. Example: At room temp of 69, sample adjust to 69.4. But in hotter room at 79, it only adjusts same .4, when water sample is basically the same Aquarium water. Folks at Milwaukee say it's the temp of unit itself which seems correct. But I think the manual is misleading when it states temp is accurate to .5 F degrees.

Vital tool

Pros: Easy to use, accurate and consistent measurements, great value

Cons: None so far

I ordered this due to being tired trying to read my simple refractometer, even being relatively young I found myself second guessing the salinity and blurring readings. I ordered this to erase any user error. Unit is easy to calibrate and very quick and easy to use. Salinity is such an important variable to our reefs, I find myself testing salinity much more often and quit second guessing my easurements. A must have!
