Why does BRS recommend this?

This is the perfect companion product for dry rock if you are looking to speed up the tank cycle. BRS has had very good success using it in our own tanks and recommend this product to anyone starting a new tank. It is a very effective source of live nitrifying bacteria for new tanks, quarantine tanks, water changes, or any time the biological load may increase in a saltwater system.

 

BIO-Spira is an essential water conditioner for setting up new marine aquariums. Does the whole bottle have to be used at once? I want to keep this on hand for using when i set up my quarantine but i see on the bottle it says use entire contents at once?

While the bacterial supplement will establish beneficial bacteria in your system, this does not provide a complete or stable ecosystem conducive to good coral health. Typically we would recommend allowing for 2-3 months at minimum to allow the tank to mature prior to adding more sensitive livestock.

I started a new tank with the Nuvo Fusion 20 starter kit. I used bio spira and it's been about 10 days. I have been ghost feeding and I also put a piece of shrimp in the tank for about 5 days in the beginning. Never really detected much ammonia and very little nitrite. In the past 5 days or so I have been getting more and more Nitrate. Does this mean that the tank is cycled? Should I do a water change now or wait for the Nitrate level to go down to zero? It's at 50 now based on the red sea test kit. Thanks.

I am starting a new tank with BRS Fiji dry rock. There was a lot of dead/ decaying matter on the rock in received, so I gave the rock and acid bath. Now when using this product to aid in the cycle do you add it before there is any ammonia present or vice versa? The bacteria in this needs ammonia to feed and live on, right?

This product will treat a 75 gallon tank with 250 mL. This means 3.3 mL per gallon.

I am starting a quarantine tank. The plan is just to use RO/DI saltwater mix...not water from my DT. I was wondering do I just add the mixed saltwater and then add this stuff and it should start the cycle...then do periodic water changes. My quarantine is being used for freshly bought fish and then putting them into my DT. My DT is still cycling, hence why I'm not using that water, so when its done the fish will already be ready to drop into the DT tank if that makes sense.

Correct! The Bio-spira will allow for instant addition of fish as it add the bacteria for you. Keeping up with testing and not adding too many fish immediately is a crucial step. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions!

Great question!
These bottles are not shipped cooled rather just in factory packaging. The Dormant bacteria will survive most any trip.
