Red Sea REEFER™ Systems
Rimless Reef Ready Systems for advanced hobbyists

REEFER™ Concept
Red Sea’s REEFER™ series of Reef Systems, provide advanced hobbyists with a solid foundation for building a fully featured reef or marine aquarium.

The REEFER™ series combines a contemporary, rimless, ultra-clear glass aquarium with a stylish cabinet and a comprehensive water management system, including a professional sump with integrated automatic top-up, and Red Sea’s unique silent down-flow system.

Incorporating technologies originally developed for Red Sea’s all-in-one MAX® coral reef systems, the REEFER™ series is designed for ease of operation while enabling the advanced hobbyist to install an unlimited choice of lighting, filtration, circulation and controllers to create a uniquely customized system.

Features of the Red Sea REEFER™ include:
  • Rimless, ultra-clear, beveled edge glass aquarium
  • Elegant marine-spec cabinet
  • Professional sump with constant height skimmer chamber and micron filter bags
  • Silent, regulated down-flow system with emergency overflow
  • Integrated automatic top-up system with reservoir
  • Assembly-ready piping – no gluing required
REEFER™ Specification
REEFER™ aquariums are constructed from thick, beveled-edge, ultra-clear glass to support their elegant and modern rimless design.

The aquarium sits on a recessed base that “floats” it above the cabinet, which seamlessly follows the contour of the glass.

The marine-spec laminated cabinet that houses the sump, (and in the larger models also includes a dedicated, vented space for chillers) is smartly finished with weatherproof, epoxy-painted doors.

REEFER™ Water Management System
The comprehensive water management system provides the base for excellent water quality. Surface water from all sides of the aquarium is actively fed to the sump through the regulated silent flow downpipe.

red sea reefer marine aquarium system - regulated downflow system

Removable surface-skimming combs surround the top of the centrally located overflow box that houses the downpipe, sump return pipe and the discreet multi-directional “eyeball” return outlet nozzle.

In the event of a blockage in the regulated downpipe, an additional emergency overflow pipe provides an unrestricted free flow of aquarium water directly to the sump.

On entering the sump the water passes through a 200 micron mechanical filter bag, before entering the filtration compartment that maintains a constant water height, making it suitable for all skimmers and other reactors.

In order to remove any air bubbles that may have escaped from the skimmer, the water passes through a bubble-stripping cascade on its way to the return pump chamber.

To ensure a constant water level in the pump compartment, all REEFER™ sumps include an integrated automatic freshwater top-up unit, guaranteeing a constant, stable water flow throughout the complete system.

Supplied as a complete self-assembly kit, all pipe work is ready without the need for any gluing.

I'd give it more than 5 stars

Pros: A very impressive product, I wish every other product was so well thought out

Cons: None

I'd give this 15 stars- 5 for the stand, 5 for the tank and 5 for Red Sea. The stand is built like a rock it includes rubber padding for the sump and tank. The tank is gorgeous and the associated plumbing beats hose clamps, gluing PVC, etc. Red Sea's customer will answer any assembly and operating questions quickly. The packaging was incredible. I have a few tips based on experience:
- The return hose fitting is 5/8". Buy a an adapter so you use 3/4" hose which is standard on return pumps
- Paint the underside of the sump (white) so you can see anything, e.g. dirt, on the bottom
- If using versa clips to make a lid, the front glass is 12mm and the other 3 sides are 10mm. Run the 10mm under hot water so they'll slide easily on the sides. The sump sides were 8mm
- When placing the tank on the stand, the back of the tank aligns with the back of the stand. The front will then line up perfectly with the doors when you install them

Reefer 250

Pros: Order came right to the house via carrier and I couldn't be happier with the customer service.

Cons: N/A

High Quality tank, period. The soft close doors work perfectly. The overflow can actually be adjusted to be perfectly silent. The tank features low-iron glass and a shaded back panel, and black silicone edges that are perfect.

Red Sea Reefer 250-White Version

Pros: elegant desgin

Cons: sump and drain pipe valve

Good quality overall, and easy setup for installation. However after having it for 2 years, I noticed improvements could be made in regards to the design of the sump and the drain pipe valve. The water level in the overflow box will get very inconsistent as time go by.

Best Tanks

Pros: Awesome look, durable, quiet

Cons: Auto top off not very reliable

I don’t know where to begin. Red Sea truly makes a phenomenal product. The clarity of the glass. The structure and durability of the cabinet. All the way to the sheer silence of the overflow system. This tank sits in my living room and you would never know that the tank was there (minus the hum of the skimmer). This product is well worth the money for anyone who is a looking to build a long lasting, clean looking reef system. My only complaint is the built in ATO system. The reservoir is only a couple gallons and the ATO gravity feed does not always work. I would recommend upgrading the ATO. Other then that, sky is the limit with these tanks.

Buy it

Pros: Great materials

Cons: A bit finicky to adjust flow rate

Great product. Sets up kind of like Ikea furniture, but once everything is put together, it looks seemless. Everything is high quality material and very sturdy. Would definitely buy again.

Good product, bad shipping

The product itself is top notch. I have a few friends that have this tank and is actually the reason I bought it. However, I would be able to enjoy it if I ever received it. Multiple attempts to get an estimated delivery date has gotten me nowhere. Tracking shows the tank has been less than two hours away from my house for almost 5 days now. Think twice about ordering if you want it soon.

Everything is all thought out nicely

I bought this to replace a similar setup made by the originator of this genre, in Italy. This is a much better system, for much less. Everything is all thought out nicely, so I don't have to be as much of an inventor to set it up, just put it all together. The cabinet doors have a very high-quality finish. There is plenty of room for a big skimmer. I would buy it again.
