The Reef Glass Nano Skimmer is a high quality air pump driven protein skimmer specially designed for nano reef aquariums. It is based on the traditional air-driven method using limewood airstone with many improvements. The unique design is very simple, yet elegant and functional.

Features

  • Skimmer body made of high quality Pyrex glass. The unique design eliminates the need for a side drain, making it simpler and more robust. Made, cut and fire polished in the USA.
  • Polycarbonate mount that fits most rimless and rimmed tanks. The design allows for air and drain tubing to be organized and incorporates options for back and front screws, adding versatility. Also, made in the USA.
  • Small size, ideal for nano reef aquariums up to 30 gallons.
  • Straight shape allows for easy replacement of the limewood airstone from the top of the skimmer without removing it from the mount.
  • Includes limewood airstone, two-hole rubber stopper, tubing and all necessary connectors. All you need is an air pump that can deliver around 1 L/min of air and a waste container (good opportunity to recycle a plastic bottle).
  • Silent operation.
  • Does not add heat to your nano reef aquarium, unlike Venturi and needle wheel pump skimmers.
  • Improves water oxygenation.
  • Dimensions: 1.25"x 1.25"x 11.5"
  • Fits tanks with thickness up to 1"
A sufficient air pump is required and sold separately. We recommend the Marina 200 Air Pump or similiar size (1 L/min) air pump to deliver air into the protein skimmer.

The Reef Glass Nano Skimmer fits in the following aquariums:

Stopped working in 3 months

You may as well just burn $100 and save the hassle of dealing with this skimmer.... never could get it adjusted right.... it was my only choice due to size restraints on my sea clear 40 gallon tank. Stopped working all together within 3 months of purchase.... numerous emails to company without a response. Don’t buy!

Smallest Footprint Skimmer For A Nano Tank

Pros: Simple, looks good, works as advertised, smallest footprint in its class

Cons: price, need to replace airstones every couple months, takes time to dial it in.

I have been battling a pretty bad algae bloom in my 20 gallon reef tank. Since I am running an HOB AquaClear 70 (and not a sump), I knew I needed an in-tank protein skimmer. The challenge was that I had already cut the dimensions for a screen lid and didn't want to have to break out the hacksaw to change the dimensions so I could add a protein skimmer next to my filter. I checked out a bunch of other products and they were all showing dimensions larger than 3" x 3. The Reef Glass skimmer was the only out-of-the-box option that would fit in my tank without requiring me to re-cut my screen lid.

It is very simple to operate. The skimmer for me has been running pretty wet, but as other reviewers have noted, the skim looks like a dark, green tea, so it is obviously pulling out nutrients.

The price is definitely steep for what it is. If you have a place near you where you can to buy scientific lab equipment, you could probably build one of these yourself and save a bunch of money. But as an out-of-the-box option, it works well.

The airstone did come damaged with my order. Almost like the hole drilled into the wood was too large for the plastic fitting, so all of the air leaked out of the fitting before it could even reach the airstone. A buddy of mine had a spare airstone that he gave be to use while I am waiting for Marine Depot to ship out a replacement part.

Having to replace the airstones every couple months is definitely a downside, but the small footprint makes up for that in my mind. If you have a table saw or miter saw, I would recommend picking up Balsa wood at a local craft store and making your own wooden airstones from scratch. They will cost a lot less than the store bought wooden airstones. Just pay close attention to your dimensions because the wood will swell when it takes on water and if you cut a Balsa airstone too big, it will crack the glass when it expands.

Only other negative is that as it came, the glass tube that connects to the airstone appears to be a little too long, putting the airstone too close to the bottom of the glass cylinder. I am going to try to fix this by trimming the soft tubing connecting the glass tube and the airstone. As-is, a couple of microbubbles escape into the display tank every couple seconds. If I had a sump with baffles, the leakage of microbubbles wouldn't be a problem but in a display tank, they are a little annoying. Some people say that will get better as the protein skimmer ages, but it looks like in this case, the airstone is just too low and too close to the rim of the reef glass skimmer.

doesn't really work

Pros: it fits anywhere

Cons: doesn't work

I have been trying this out for 2 months now. Initially I got it working and was able to get about one shot glass of black water after 2 weeks. Since then it has done nothing. Have cleaned it, watched multiple videos on how some are having success, but it just does not work. You can try everything to adjust the bubbles and the flow and I even tried different air stones but nothing works. Feel like I wasted a bunch of money on a product that simply doesn't work. Would be nice if the company reaches out to me to try and solve the problem. So far just threw 90 dollars away.

Best $85

It’s worth the $85 only if you live in USA but is it not worth it to get it shipped to Canada.

Great for Nanos!

Pros: Size, quality, esthetics

Cons: A bit difficult to adjust

This skimmer fits perfect in my 10 gal Reef tank! It is a little challenging to adjust but you figure it out pretty fast. Now it is pulling about a 1/2 cup a week of green tea looking skimmate. Tank looks clean! I bought the bundle with the air pump and the pump did not work well for the application. Just get the skimmer and go to a LFS and buy a cheap air pump that is quiet!

Awesome nano/pico protein skimmer

Pros: Small, efficient, air driven

Cons: None so far

I've had this running on a 10 gallon and it cranks out scum, filled half a normal plastic water bottle in 4 days of dark fluid. Excellent little protein skimmer and looks great too

Not that great except for the size

Pros: small fits well in micro/nano tanks

Cons: overpriced, hard to dial in to work effectively

I've had this for weeks, can not dial this in at all. All it does is fill my collection container with clear tank water, not even yellow, but definitely clear tank water! It does fit well in my Nano Cube, simple setup, but draining my tank water isn't worth the price.

Small, easy, and simple

Pros: Simple Design, skims

Cons: A little Pricey for what it is

Couldn't be easier to install, but takes forever to dial in. Also, produces wet skim (else your tubing to the waste container would clog).
