The BH-2000 is a unique design HOB skimmer in that the pump is mounted external and under the actual skimmer body allowing for much less room needed behind the aquarium. Also by placing the pump outside the skimmer and the aquarium there is no heat exchanged to the water. This design also allows for easy removal of the pump for cleaning and maintenance. The Reef Octopus® skimmers are powered by the efficient Aquatrance 2000s pinwheel pump. They are built with high quality acrylic. The Octopus skimmers uses metric plumbing parts. The pump has an improved venturi design and pinwheel impeller.

Works Nicely

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Assembly Instructions

Instructions to put together wasn't detailed but found a youtube video to help with assembly. Skimmer runs fine and is even pretty quiet as the tank that this is on, is in my office.

Big skimmer on small tank

Pros: Once it works, best skimmer I’ve owned

Cons: Takes awhile to get working at full capacity and takes a lot of fiddling

I have a 75 gallon reef tank and this big boy does it all. It takes awhile for it to prime and stop having so many micro bubbles in the display tank. After that is resolved, it is an awesome skimmer. Does amazing things!

Hob skimmer

Pros: Skimmer's are needed

Cons: Cleaning issues

I finally bought this after I realized I didn't have room for a traditional sump. It took a bit of time to figure out how to dial it in BUT now after 6 months it's running great and collecting tons of Bio crap. I don't have to use the ugly Black foam at all as the micro bubbles don't happen anymore. It's a bit hard to clean after I dump it daily but not a big deal. It's well worth it for those who can't either afford a traditional sump pump or don't have any room for one. After it's properly broke in its really good

love it!

Pros: easy to clean, works great, clean look

when i started in the hobby a protine skimmer was somthing i always looked into but always thought of it to be over priced, many conversations at the LFS lead into well you really dont need a skimmer. so id always just buy some frags or fish........ wrong! ever since iv added this skimmer to my 55G tank, (yes i bought the 2000 for my 55G reef cause bigger is better) iv had much more stable water and much more clear water! the ammount of carp it removes will amaze you.. my skimmer took about a mounth to brake in and actually start skimming right. i also love the surface skimmer on the inlet side it helps remove floating junk (bugs/dust) the bubble defuser also works great, i have no problem with micro bubbles in my tank like everyone complains about.. I had to use Hang on the back (HOB) skimmer cause at he moment i am sumpless and id say iv made a good chioce and plan to keep the same skimmer after the sump is up and running

Great skimmer so far!

Pros: Works great, easy to setup

Cons: Noisy.

I have a 75 gallon tank with two clowns, a cleaner shrimp and a cleanup crew so it's a very light bio load. The first day the skimmer pulled about half a collection cup worth of gunk out of the water. It's been running for five days with the height of the collection cup set pretty high and it's still cleaning like a champ. This is my first skimmer so I don't have any experience setting one up but I haven't had any issues. It's pretty straight forward. It is a little noisy, that's the reason for the 4 star review. It's not terrible but it just adds to the overall noise of the system kind of a gurgling sound.
