Not self piercing
This is a well made product. However I had to turn off the water main then drill a 3/16th hole hook up some flexible pvc 1/4 to it. My big mistake is I used airline tubing and of course in the middle of the night just as the cat settled down I hear a strange noise I have push the cat out of the way run to the basement and find the airline tubing had split and water was every place. Luckily it was by the valve and I could turn it off quickly. Moral to the story don't use airline for this saddle to the rodi system.

self piercing saddle valve
I've used these in the past and they've performed great ! But unfortunately the last one was terrible ! (I'm siding on a factory defect). I will continue to use them but this last one was a disaster ! I'm just lucky I had other options to solve the problem !

Saddle Valve
I was not sure how to hook up. It was easy, secure mounting bracket to cold water pipe. Shut water source. Place copper stem inside 1/4 tubing, placing copper bolt inside tube and place white plastic O ring a tip of tubing. Tighten bolt on to Base of Valve (use 1/2" open wrench). Open water source, open Saddle Value, Your done, No Leaks.

Fail
I used this self-piercing saddle valve as instructed but it failed to pierce the copper pipe in my home. The piercing pin bent and failed. I ended up purchasing a different unit with a solid metal pin from Home Depot and it pierced my copper pipe like butter.
