Every time we take a closer look, Aqua Illumination LEDs prove to be among the best value yet never disappoint in the way of features and performance. The Hydra 32HD is their mid-tier lighting option that is surprisingly versatile given its size and price-point.

Hydra 32HD Features:

  • Effective Spread: 24" x 24"
  • Effective Depth: 24"
  • Recommended Mounting Height: 8-10"
  • Dimensions: 7.28" L x 5.375" W x 1.42" H
  • LED Channels: 7 (+1)
  • Number of LEDs: 32 (+4)
  • Power Consumption: 90 watts
  • Optical Reflectors: TIR (total internal reflectors)
  • Water-Resistant
  • Bluetooth LE enabled for the myAI control app

The Hydra 32HD is an incredibly powerful LED light that will cover a 24" square area with enough light for LPS corals down to about a 24" depth.  For larger tanks or SPS dominant tanks, multiple Hydra 32HD fixtures are often a better choice over a single Hydra 64Hd simply because you can space the fixtures and achieve a more even spread of light; this is especially true for SPS corals that need that 200-350 PAR throughout the entire aquarium.

Mounting

Aqua Illumination offers a few different mounting solutions which are sold separately and should be chosen based on your particular tank.  The HMS mounting system is a robust rail system that adapts to 1 or more Hydra fixtures and will allow for direct attachment to the wall(s) of the aquarium or suspension from the ceiling or light rack. There is also a Hydra-specific flex-arm style mount which is great for those who like a more minimalistic approach and only require a single fixture.

Control

All Prime and Hydra HD series fixtures are compatible with the popular cloud-based myAI control app where you can interact with and program the light. Being easy to set up is one of the most sought-after features in a modern LED light and myAI does not disappoint. It is extremely intuitive and easy to use while also being powerful and offers enough flexibility for the user to create the exact look and feel they want in their aquarium. This includes spectrum, intensity, light schedule, moonlighting, acclimation mode, and an easy setup wizard so you can have your lights up and running in a matter of minutes.
