Wavelink AIO Wavemaker – Know Your Flow

Water flow, one of the single, most important and overlooked basic necessities for any aquarium. In nature reefs are accustomed to constant changing water movements and throughout years of evolution they have changed to benefit from it.

Proper water movement helps crucial gas exchange, removes damaging waste build up and stimulates beneficial fish and coral health. To simulate natural wave patterns we must understand the different kinds of water movement in nature: Laminar or Stream, Surging and Turbulant /Random FlowDepending on what kind of livestock you have each one requires a specific type of flow that naturally occurs in the wild.

The general rule of thumb is 5 to 10 times the volume of water needs to move in your tank per hour…so if you have a 10 gallon tank you need to have 50 - 100 gallons moved. 50 gallons, 250-500 gallons and so forth.

No bigger than an egg and utilizing the latest in Sinewave technology the Wavelink by Innovative Marine is A DC powered, controllable & energy efficient wavemaker that gives you the flexibility to change wave patterns on the fly without the need of computers, APPS, or purchasing additional modules.

Bad power supply!

Pros: Small

Cons: Unreliable

As soon as I opened the box and placed the pumps in my aquarium there was no life from the pumps when I plugged them into the wall.

Awesome fan

Pros: Price. Linking capability. Flow

Cons: Fan does squeal occasionally, probably from the controller

These fans are awesome! This is the second 1500 I’ve added to my 32g Biocube. Love the linking capability. Just be careful of the flow - these things move a TON of water. I’ve got both of them one setting 1 and it creates great randomized flow.

Nice powerhead - when it works

Pros: Excellent water flow with numerous flow options

Cons: DIED just after the warranty expired

I ordered this power-head for my 35 gal tank for additional water flow. It works GREAT until it dies... which was a few months after the warranty expired.

Works Well, One Problem

Pros: Very quiet, moves a good amount of water,

Cons: Intermittently stops and restarts, light sensor not reliable

This pump has been running for over a month now in my Fusion-40 tank and in general is OK. Gave it a 3/5 because it makes a random buzzing sound for about 5 sec., then the propeller stops momentarily, then starts again. Happens anytime regardless of operating mode, sometimes once a day, sometimes every three days, totally random. Also has a light sensor for detecting night/day operation which is a great feature but mine does not work reliably, and my tank is located about 6 feet from a window. This is my first wave maker, I would recommend trying a different one.

More Details Please!

Pros: Seems to work as advertised.

Cons: Lack of operating and maintenance information.

Been operating this unit for about a month in my Fusion 40 reef tank and so far so good (I think). Wanted a basic wave maker and this one works, the only manual provided is a basic user guide describing the six operating modes: Pulse, Sine, Surge, Stream, Turbulent, Cycle. I use sine mode, but why and when might the other modes be used? Surprised to discover that it also has a light sensor which switches from whatever mode you are running to Turbulent with minimum flow at night. This is cool but my tank is only four feet from a north-east facing window and sometimes the light sensor works and sometimes not, even though the sensor faces the window. I must not be locating it correctly, it would be nice to have more info on just how to use this feature. Guidelines for locating and cleaning the pump would also be nice. My unit also makes a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds at random times of the day or night, by the time I get to the tank it has stopped so not sure what is happening, might be a simply location problem but I don't know. I'm accustomed to always getting an instruction manual with protein skimmers, pumps, heaters, etc., could sure use more info on the Wavelink; have also searched the internet and did not find anything.

Pros: They move a lot of water

Awesome Lil' Powerhead

Pros: Compact but powerful

Cons: None

I have tried so many different powerheads. Some too much flow, some too little. This ph lets you customize the flow AND pattern. The night mode is so convenient and slows to the minimal flow when the room is darkened. I highly recommend this product if you haven't been able to find the right flow for your tank.
Tank info: 55 gal, mixed coral and fish, cube 18 sump, AquaMaxx FC-80 protein skimmer

Very cool

I like the options that these give. But be careful. They are more powerful than I thought. I put one on my Fluval EVO 13.5 nano and about blew everything over. Also when you plug them in, they will be at the highest level. So watch out for that. Otherwise they are great.
